DEPARTMENT OF SURGICAL DISEASES WITH A COURSE IN ANESTHESIOLOGY AND INTENSIVE CARE

The Department of Surgical Diseases with the course of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care is a structural subdivision of the Educational and Scientific Institute "European Medical School" at the International European University.  

The head of the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Rostyslav Valentynovych Bondarev.  

The person responsible for the educational process at the department is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Hennadiy Dmytrovych Babenkov.  

The department's staff currently includes 8 employees, among them 4 doctors and 3 candidates of medical sciences, and 1 senior laboratory assistant.  

Four employees hold the academic title of "professor," and one has the title of "associate professor."  

The department offers education to students, interns, master's students, clinical residents, and PhD students.  

The educational process is conducted for both domestic and English-speaking students of the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th years. In accordance with the requirements of the Bologna process, education is carried out through a credit-modular system. Special attention is given to preparing students for the "Krok-2" licensing exam.  

The highly qualified academic and scientific staff of the department ensures the scientific and educational activities of the unit. A base of methodological guidelines has been created for each class topic according to the curriculum, helping students master surgical disciplines.  

Regular work is done with student activists, discussing issues of discipline, independent work organization, and learning outcomes, which helps foster a sense of responsibility and a positive psychological environment among students.  

The department staff creates favorable conditions for the harmonious development and self-realization of students, who are encouraged to uphold universal human values and follow the example of ethical behavior in daily life. Students are also introduced to the best achievements of leading scientists from Ukraine and the international European community, ultimately shaping well-rounded and patriotic individuals.  

The main tasks of the department include providing instruction in surgical disciplines at a high academic and scientific level, equipping students with knowledge, skills, and competencies to adapt to surgical patients, diagnose, select appropriate therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and provide care for patients with surgical pathologies. The department also engages in scientific research and works to raise students' general cultural level, contributing to their social and professional development as future doctors.  

The aim of teaching surgical disciplines is to instill theoretical and practical knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, typical and atypical clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, conservative and surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of surgical pathologies.  

The department is equipped with medical diagnostic equipment that allows for highly professional, specialized open and minimally invasive, endoscopic surgeries. All equipment is utilized in the educational process.  

Department staff annually participate in major medical scientific and practical events both in Ukraine and abroad and undergo internships abroad.  

Scientific research at the department focuses on surgical phlebology, endoscopic technologies in elective and emergency surgery, treatment of limb wounds in victims of combat injuries, adhesive disease of the abdominal cavity, surgical correction of diabetes, and reconstructive plastic surgery.  

The results of the department's scientific research are presented in textbooks, monographs, scientific articles, and reports at international and Ukrainian medical forums.  

Key activities of the department include:  

- Conducting classes in relevant disciplines in Ukrainian and English;  

- Publishing educational and methodological literature in Ukrainian and English (textbooks, teaching aids, methodological guidelines, lecture notes, etc.);  

- Participating in regional and international conferences;

- Organizing and running student research groups for in-depth study of specific disciplines;  

- Preparing students to participate in national and international student competitions, research contests, and conferences;  

- Supervising students' research projects;  

- Involvement of faculty members in professional associations.

  9. Medical Production Practice;  
  10. Medical Production Practice with Functional Diagnostics Practicum;  
  11. Integrated Medical Practice with Clinical Simulation Practicum.  

Currently, the department's staff is actively working on scientific publications (including those in scientometric journals), scientific articles, theses, textbooks, methodological recommendations, and other educational and methodological materials to both improve the quality of education and represent the institute and university at the national and international levels.
