DEPARTMENT OF UROLOGY AND ANDROLOGY

The Department of Urology and Andrology is one of the structural divisions of the Educational and Research Institute "European Medical School" at the International European University.

The head of the department is Associate Professor Serhii Vasylovych Nasheda, PhD in Medical Sciences.

The person responsible for the educational process at the department is Associate Professor Mykola Dmytrovych Kvach, PhD in Medical Sciences.

Currently, the department consists of two staff members who hold PhDs in Medical Sciences.

The department provides training for both students and medical interns. The educational process involves both domestic and English-speaking international 4th-year students. In accordance with the requirements of the Bologna Process, education is conducted on a credit-modular system. Special attention is given to preparing students for the licensing exam "Krok-2."

The highly qualified academic staff of the department ensures the scientific and educational activities of the unit, having developed a comprehensive set of methodological recommendations for each lesson topic as per the curriculum. This aids students in mastering the diagnosis and treatment of urological diseases.

Regular work with students is conducted, emphasizing discipline, medical deontology, independent work, and an analysis of learning outcomes. This helps foster a sense of responsibility among students, creating a conducive psychological climate, and motivates some to pursue internships in urology.

During the educational process, the department's staff introduces students to the latest and most advanced achievements of leading Ukrainian and international scholars, ultimately shaping them into fully developed professionals.

The department's goals include providing high-level educational and scientific teaching of the urology and andrology cycle, ensuring students gain the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies for working with urological patients; understanding the required examination algorithms, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment plans; assisting patients with urological conditions; conducting scientific research, and enhancing the general culture and social and professional development of future doctors.

The purpose of teaching the clinical discipline of urology is to equip students with the theoretical and practical knowledge and skills related to the etiology, pathogenesis, typical and atypical clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, conservative and surgical treatments, and rehabilitation of urological patients.

The department’s facilities are equipped with diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, enabling highly qualified open and minimally invasive surgical interventions. This equipment is actively integrated into the educational process.

Every year, the department's staff actively participates in specialized medical scientific and practical events both in Ukraine and abroad, and they undergo international training programs.

Research at the department focuses on urology, with special attention to antibiotic resistance and the development of modern approaches to the treatment of infectious and inflammatory processes in urological patients. Special emphasis is placed on reconstructive plastic urology, which has gained increased relevance during the war. The results of the department's scientific research are reflected in scientific articles and are presented at national and international medical forums.

The department's areas of activity include:

  • Conducting urology classes in both Ukrainian and English;
  • Publishing educational and methodological literature in Ukrainian and English (textbooks, teaching guides, lecture notes, etc.);
  • Participating in regional and international conferences;
  • Organizing and running student scientific research groups for in-depth study of urology;
  • Preparing students for participation in national and international student Olympiads, scientific competitions, and conferences;
  • Supervising student research projects;
  • Department staff’s involvement in professional associations in their field.
